Hi, I’m Jessica!

Thank you for joining me at Fab Food Flavors. I am so excited to share my culinary adventures as I make and bake fabulous flavorful food every day.

First off, you should know that I am an enthusiastic self taught baker and cook. I love to eat, take pictures of food and share! All the recipes, ideas and tips I am sharing are home-tested in my kitchen. In other words, I only share recipes that I have used at home AND fed myself and family. I love to tinker with recipes, explore diverse global ingredients, learn new techniques, and try new things that are delicious and flavorful!

Influence

Fab Food Flavors

Growing up in Asia, I have always taken for granted the wonderful array of tasty fruits and food that is easily available. From simple street food to fancy elaborate multi-course celebrations, the next delicious feast was just a meal away. There were so many variety of cuisine available – Malay, Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Korean, American, French, Italian, etc!

In my family, we mark every memorable happy occasion by sitting down to eat. Food is the glue that holds us together.

As a young adult, I was lucky enough to travel, working and living in different parts of the world. School and corporate work took me to beautiful places and exposed me to some of the best food I’ve ever had in my life!

One of my fondest memories when living in Tokyo was visiting Tsukiji Market during the wee hours to eat the freshest sushi possible. Another was savoring my first ever fresh black truffle lovingly shaved over homemade pasta in a little inn at Perugia, Italy. Or the time in Hong Kong when we took coworkers to pick out fresh swimming seafood at the local harbor to be made into dinner. Who can forget the foggy humid bakery in London where I saw bagels boiled in huge vats of water? In addition, I recall the first time I ate a gigantic all-American burger in Virginia. It was stacked high with all the fixings, served alongside a mountain of skinny fries. All happy memories!

Therefore, exploring and experiencing a wide array of diverse cuisines influenced the food I enjoy today.

My family

Now I live in the United States, married to my Canadian-born husband of English and Colombian heritage, with our 2 active children. We continue to travel, vacation and eat our way through many memorable food. As a result, our food at home is sometimes an unexpected blend of cultures! We have eaten tortilla with tofu, shepherd’s pie with Sichuan peppers, soba with truffles, paella with kimchi, just to name a few. Each are little delightful eclectic mix of flavors we enjoy.

Somewhere along the way, I became an occasional seasonal baker and taught myself to replicate the dishes I enjoyed. Work in corporate life was stressful and I find focusing on making food makes me happy. Above all, I love creating something nourishing, flavorful and beautiful for my family and friends.

Why Fab Food Flavors?

I started this blog as friends and family asked for me to share the recipes and ideas of items I’ve made and baked. The pandemic in early 2020 was the catalyst.

When we were sheltering in place at home like so many people around the globe, I was anxious with all the uncertainties of the outside world. Baking and cooking became my daily solace and stress buster. Taking pictures and sharing them with my family and friends became a regular way of keeping in touch and staying sane. Next, they urged and encouraged me to write a blog and share my experience, which resonated well with me. So, armed with a determination to learn and share, I created this blog.

In conclusion, Fab Food Flavors is a personal journal of my culinary adventures. A record of my journey as I learn to bake, make and create a whole list of fun, diverse and flavorful recipes.

I hope you will join me as I tackle the next kitchen adventure!
